Special Process Engineer – CNC Programmer

Role Summary/Purpose:
The Special Process Engineer – CNC Programmer brings specialized expertise to the company, providing support across all repair lines, from ongoing operations to new product industrialization. This role ensures the implementation of advanced technologies and compliance with OEM standards, contributing to the company's overall operational excellence.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide programming expertise across all product lines to ensure seamless integra-tion and efficient production processes.
- Review the Repair Document from the Engine Manual and develop CNC programs that comply with the repair specifications.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of Renishaw probing subroutines programming and their integration into main programs for optimized performance.
- Generate and maintain CNC programs using software for Okuma, Mazak, Fanuc, and Mastercam processes, including milling, turning, and 5-axis CNC programming.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve systems related to CNC functions to ensure ongoing operational efficiency.
- Verify and validate new CNC programs prior to release on the shop floor, including completed First Article inspections.
- Provide operator training during the implementation of new programs to ensure proper usage and adherence to standards.
- Train employees on the processes you own, fostering a collaborative relationship and maintaining regular communication with OEM process experts to drive contin-uous improvement.
- Develop and update work instructions for production cells to ensure consistent, efficient, and accurate manufacturing processes
- Define and continuously improve operator-training, qualification, process planning, and evaluate operating methods to enhance overall performance.
- Participate in or lead capital expenditure projects from specification through installation, ensuring proper qualification of new equipment and compliance with company procedures.
- Contribute to New Product Industrialization by analyzing process, equipment, tooling capabilities, part flow, capital expenditure, and cost factors.
- Promote innovative repair solutions in collaboration with other engineering teams, aiming to reduce lead times, improve quality, enhance cost-effectiveness, and sup-port EHS improvements to produce high-quality products efficiently.
- Provide expertise in supporting Safety and Quality functions through the integration of ISO/QC documentation and manufacturing method instructions.
- Conduct cost/benefit analysis for proposed changes to processes, consumables, and equipment, ensuring sound decision-making and resource allocation.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing process capability, reducing costs, and increasing production capacity.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED and a minimum of 5 years of CNC experience with software packages that integrate graphic programming, Mill turn multi-axis machining, and program simulation software; Mastercam experience is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Inventor is an asset.
- Familiarity with machine controls, including Fanuc, Okuma (OSP 300), and Mazak (EIA output).
- Hands-on experience in operating both manual and CNC machines.
- General understanding of various processes beyond your area of expertise, including surface treatments (chemical cleaning, stripping, blasting, high-pressure water jets), plasma spraying, conventional machining, CNC machining, TIG welding, EB welding, brazing, tooling design, painting, shot peening, heat treatments, general blending, dimensional inspection, CMM inspection, and NDT (FPI, MPI, X-ray, ECI, UT).
- Willingness to work extended hours and off-shifts as required meeting business needs.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, Green Belt certification is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, and extract and utilize annotations provided within Model-Based Definition (MBD).
- In-depth understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
