Job Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quality Control Supervisor to lead our quality control team. This individual will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the QC lab, ensuring high standards for product inspections, calibrations, and overall lab efficiency. The QC Lab Supervisor will also be in charge of communicating the workload, approving and scheduling employee time off, and tracking key performance metrics related to lab operations. This role requires a strong leadership presence and the ability to maintain a productive and compliant lab environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Manage and supervise the quality control lab team, providing daily guidance and support.
- Assign and prioritize workload based on production schedules, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Approve and schedule employee time off, ensuring appropriate coverage for lab operations.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting continuous learning and professional development.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support employee growth and training.
- Lab Operations Management:
- Oversee the execution of quality control inspections, calibrations, and testing to ensure that products meet established specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g. ISO, IATF16949, and AS9100) and internal quality policies.
- Monitor and track lab metrics such as throughput, accuracy, and turnaround time, reporting trends and addressing any performance gaps.
- Ensure the lab is properly maintained, including equipment calibration, upkeep of testing instruments, and ensuring safe and compliant working conditions.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify areas for process improvements within the lab and implement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and productivity.
- Drive and support continuous improvement projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve quality-related issues.
- Maintain and review standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring they are up to date and followed.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Track and analyze lab performance metrics, providing regular updates to management on trends, successes, and challenges.
- Ensure that all QC inspection results, calibrations, and testing data are documented accurately and in compliance with internal and external auditing requirements.
- Investigate any non-conformance incidents, document root causes, and drive corrective actions as necessary.
- Calibration & Inspection:
- Perform or coordinate regular calibrations and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct inspections and testing as needed, following established procedures and standards.
- Collaborate with engineering or technical teams to resolve equipment or process issues impacting product quality.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Quality Assurance, or a related field. Certification in Quality Control or relevant fields is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a quality control environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong background in quality control practices, including inspections, testing, and calibrations.
- Experience with lab management software or quality management systems (e.g., SAP, SQCPack) is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF16949)
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing methods used for product inspections and calibrations.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills, especially in identifying and addressing lab performance issues.

- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, management, and other departments.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards for accuracy and productivity.
- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in testing, inspections, and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
- CMM Programming experience.
- Familiarity with CAD software and laser scanning or portable CMM inspections.
- Six Sigma or Lean certification or experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as required for inspecting and handling lab equipment.
