Head of Firmware Engineering
We’re currently working with a leading defense client in El Segundo who is revolutionizing the drone space. They’re building globally leading autonomous drones for defense application. They envision a battlefield full of robots and scarce of humans, therefore saving as many lives as possible.
We are looking for a talented Head of Firmware to join our team, where you’ll write low-level code for custom hardware that powers our products. This role is suited for individual contributors ranging from 8-15 years of experience.
Responsibilities:
- Foster a culture of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) within the firmware team
- Lead the growth and development of the firmware team as the organization scales
- Maintain hands-on involvement, including board bring-up for custom hardware component
Role Requirements:
- Must have played a role in recruiting or building out a previous engineering team
- Has previously implemented embedded CI/CID pipeline for Firmware specifically.
- Basic electrical engineering skills (including ohm’s law, board level circuit debugging, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzer)
- Industry experience with new board bring up
- Experience with C programming
- Comfortable with low level and bare metal embedded programming
- Has a strong understanding of modern software development practices (i.e. intricacies of release workflows for git, CI/CD of software
- Familiarity with communication protocols like I2C, SPI, CAN BUS, and UART
- Experience with Bare Metal programming
- Knowledge of drone technologies (Betaflight, ELRS)
- Experience in firmware development and integration with hardware systems
