Purpose:
A Manufacturing Engineer plays a crucial role in the production process, focusing on the design, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing systems. In addition to supporting efforts to improve manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and quality, the manufacturing engineer will support efforts to develop and implement quality system processes and continuous improvement efforts. The responsibilities of a Manufacturing Engineer include:
Process Design and Improvement:
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure product quality. This involves analyzing existing processes, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with design, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure that products are manufactured according to specifications and standards. This may involve attending design reviews and providing input on manufacturability.
Equipment and Technology Management:
- Evaluate and select machinery and tools for production lines, ensuring they meet production needs and industry standards. This also involves troubleshooting and maintaining equipment to minimize downtime.
Lean Manufacturing:
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production workflows. This includes training staff on lean practices and monitoring performance metrics.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate documentation of processes, changes, and improvements. Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Cost Management:
- Analyze production costs and implement strategies to reduce expenses without compromising quality. This includes budgeting for equipment and materials.
Training and Development:
- Train production staff on new processes, techniques, and equipment to ensure smooth transitions and adherence to quality standards. Work with customer service and warranty teams to address safety-related complaints and provide timely resolutions.
- Conduct safety training for employees and dealers on trailer handling, inspections, and reporting requirements.
Quality Support:
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering to identify and drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Support efforts to develop, maintain, and drive improvements with dashboard metrics
- Serve as a standing member of the New Product Introduction team to ensure product released to manufacture is capable of being manufactured within specified objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software and experience with process simulation tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Advanced Lean Manufacturing experience. Professional certification preferred.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in technical writing, reporting, and data analysis.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Advanced Lean Manufacturing experience. Professional certification preferred.
- Experience in a heavy manufacturing environment including weld, fabrication, metal forming, and finishing.
