Power System Engineer
Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for a Power System Engineer to support test operations and sustainment efforts for a high-profile aerospace and defense program. The selected candidate will work as part of an integrated team responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of critical electrical infrastructure.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will collaborate with senior staff on the planning and design of various electrical systems, including underground/overhead distribution, transformers, switchgear, substations, MCCs, plant & building power, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, security systems, communication networks, grounding systems, and lightning protection systems. Responsibilities include supporting contractor installations, managing design/build subcontracts, and ensuring compliance with electrical and design requirements. The role also involves overseeing facility and equipment improvement projects, managing project lifecycles, performing electrical design for critical system components, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the application of sound engineering judgment.
Job Duties
- Develop or verify electrical load calculations for mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Create or review electrical drawings, including equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Prepare specifications, estimates, and scope of work documents for in-house designs, contractor installations, and design/build subcontract work.
- Design electrical equipment interfaces and installation details.
- Generate electrical designs and construction drawings using 2D/3D computer-aided design (CAD), presentation graphics, and electrical models.
- Conduct studies such as fault current analysis, voltage drop analysis, and reliability analysis.
- Respond to system malfunctions during testing, troubleshoot issues, and perform corrective maintenance activities as needed.
- Perform root cause failure analyses and equipment performance assessments, recommending remedial actions.
- Conduct system safety hazard analyses and develop clear work instructions.
- Maintain and update system documentation.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret clearance.
- Proficiency in major industry or regulatory standards (e.g., National Electrical Code, IEEE standards) and relevant design criteria.
- Experience working with electrical systems or components in industrial or defense settings.
- Developmental experience in design engineering, systems startup, field engineering, or plant operations/maintenance in large-scale facilities.
- Professional engineering certification.
- Experience writing Scope of Work documents.
