Position Summary:
Facilitate efficient functioning of service. Maintain fiscal responsibilities for keeping supply spending within budget constraints. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* EQUIPMENT - Set up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operations
* PATIENT CARE - Assist in preparing and draping of patient and operating area; prepare and maintain sterile field for surgical procedures
* DATA - Maintain and assist with computerized data and charting, probing, and digital x-rays; maintain dental laboratory slips and check in lab cases
* SPECIMENS - Assist in maintenance and care of specimens; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
* EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies
* PATIENT CARE - Assist with table equipment, patient positioning, and application of plaster casts and dressings
* DOCUMENTATION - Document all patient care activities
* SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Function as a service coordinator with RN for special procedure preparations
* SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Maintain suture levels and assist in high level surgical procedures including vascular/aneurysm surgical procedures
* EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments
* ADMINISTRATION - Update surgeon's preference cards
* EQUIPMENT - Maintain and ensure surgical equipment and instruments are in good working condition, and ready for patient care use
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* STOCK - Perform restocking duties as necessary
* TRAINING - Function as a preceptor for new technicians and technicians rotating through the area
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
Qualifications Education:
Essential:
* High School or GED Equivalent

Experience:
Essential:
MS Word and Excel 2 years directly related experience
Nonessential:
Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo 1/2 year (6 months) directly related experience
Credentials:
Essential:
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Certification of Surgical Technologists
Nonessential:
* Military training or related certification
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
