Position DescriptionPrimary Responsibility
At all times, and in all places, this position is called upon to live our core values, assess and mitigate risk, and build relationships internally and externally. Although building relationships requires business development skillsets; this position is largely focused on rolling up its sleeves and immersing itself into significant project opportunities often characterized as A pursuits. High level competencies in estimating and an organized and thorough communication skillset allow this employee to win profitable work and ensures our operations teams have a clear roadmap to execute on a high level and exceed our customers’ expectations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide clients with conceptual budgets in accelerated timeframes with minimal design and project parameters.
- Synthesize complex plans and specifications in select bid opportunities to develop detailed and accurate estimates.
- Analyze and vet subcontractor proposals to ensure completeness of scope of work.
- Manage multiple project pursuits simultaneously by multi-tasking and prioritizing.
- Utilize critical path scheduling processes and software to establish accurate durations for client proposals.
- Attend client interviews and meetings and assist in developing and at times leading presentations.
- Follow awarded projects as necessary to support operations team – may include estimating change orders and maintaining client relations.
- Act with a sense of urgency and operate with the highest level of morals and ethics to support company culture.
- Support other pre-construction department personnel as required.
- Perform additional assignments at supervisor’s direction.
- Strengthen existing as well as build new and lasting relationships with clientele, A&E partners, and subcontractors.
Position RequirementsKnowledge, Experience & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Architectural Engineering/Design degree, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in pre-construction project management in a commercial construction environment
- Advanced knowledge of pre-construction and estimating techniques and strategies
- Familiarity with construction contract language and ability to assess risk in language
- Exceptional organizational, time management, and decision-making/problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proactive client focus
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to read and understand construction documents
- Ability to produce quality work in an autonomous manner in an ever-changing environment
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Sage Timberline Estimating, and Primavera Scheduling – prefer at least 3 years of experience using Sage Timberline Estimating
- Ability to operate basic office equipment including computer, printer, copier, fax, scanner, adding machine, telephone, and mobile phone/radio
- Must possess a valid, state-issued driver’s license
- Ability to work Monday through Friday, at least nine hours per day, five days per week generally between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. However, this position will support, mentor, and train lesser experienced employees to enhance their value in the organization.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel to meetings or events within 75-mile radius of office, 1 – 2 times per week
- Occasional travel to various project locations requiring an overnight stay, 12+ times per year
Physical Demands of Job:
Job is primarily sedentary. There is occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, climbing required.
