THE ROLE AND THE COMPANY
Heidelberg Materials provides the materials to build our future. Our future is sustainable. Our future is digital. And it goes way beyond cement, aggregates and ready-mixed concrete. Heidelberg Materials North America, previously known as Lehigh Hanson, operates more than 450 locations with approximately 9,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada.
Heidelberg Materials seeks to future proof its cement operations with increased digitization and operational capability. The overarching goal is to centralize operations, and to achieve operational excellence. For this purpose, it is establishing the Heidelberg Materials Remote Optimization Center (HROC) in its headquarters in Irving, Texas.
As an HROC Major Outage Project Lead, in this role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and managing major maintenance outages across multiple cement plants within a designated region. Based in a central location, you will collaborate closely with plant teams, procurement, vendors and contractors to plan and execute outage project activities, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient utilization of resources. Travel to the plant sites for outage preparation and execution will be required, typically involving periods of two to four weeks.
What You’ll Get to Do
- Outage Planning: Collaborate with plant teams to develop annual comprehensive maintenance outage plans, including scope definition, work scope preparation, resource allocation, scheduling, and budgeting. Analyze historical data, equipment performance, and maintenance requirements to optimize outage duration and minimize production losses. Coordinate with region management and other planners to optimize outage timing across all operations.
- Resource Coordination: Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely availability of necessary resources, including workforce, equipment, materials, and contractors, for successful outage execution. Monitor resource utilization and identify potential conflicts or constraints to ensure smooth operations.
- Project Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for all aspects of major maintenance outages, managing project timelines, milestones, and deliverables. Conduct regular progress meetings, monitor project status, and communicate updates to stakeholders. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks and issues.
- Contractor Management: Collaborate with procurement teams to select and manage contractors and vendors for specific outage projects. Develop and enforce contractor safety protocols and quality standards. Monitor contractor performance, adherence to schedules, and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Budget Control: Develop and manage outage budgets, tracking expenditures and ensuring adherence to approved financial limits. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to optimize spending while maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Communication and Coordination: Facilitate effective communication and coordination among plant teams, maintenance personnel, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in the outage projects. Provide regular updates on project status, milestones achieved, and any deviations from the plan.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices for outage planning and execution. Analyze outage performance metrics, collect feedback from stakeholders, and drive initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and overall effectiveness of major maintenance outages.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of outage plans, work orders, safety procedures, and other relevant records. Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing outage activities, including cost analysis, downtime, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Support facilities in the implementation of Heidelberg Materials maintenance and planning programs.
