POSITION TITLE: Clinical Educator (Registered Nurse)
REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for planning, scheduling, monitoring, and documenting staff development activities of all hospital employees. This includes orientation, in-service training, annual competency requirements, and professional development activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development: Develops and implements a personal plan for professional development. Schedules training sessions as needed for orientation of new employees, CPI certification, and other required staff training. Monitors staff completion of mandatory annual competencies, including CPR, NCI, safety review, and code of conduct. Collaborates with administration to assess staff development needs, plan and design training programs to meet identified needs, and evaluate the impact of programs offered. Fosters an environment that maximizes the value of human resources. Encourages people to realize their potential and provides opportunities to apply knowledge and skills.
Accountability: Creates and maintains an education file for each employee for monitoring and documenting training and development of each staff member. Facilitates communication between employees and administration to ensure that orientation and training requirements are met in a timely manner. Acts to minimize risk and ensure safety of patients and staff in the psychiatric setting. Promotes strict staff observance of confidentiality and patient rights. Understands and supports hospital nursing philosophy and the hospital mission.

Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing required, Master's degree preferred. Must maintain current California licensure as a Registered Nurse.
Minimum of 3 years' experience with specific experience and knowledge in the areas of training, education and staff development preferred.
Knowledge of psychiatric service delivery systems and treatment methods, with specific knowledge and skills in areas of risk management, infection control, and utilization review preferred.
Current knowledge of continuous quality improvement methodology.
Knowledge of applicable standards and regulations.
Current CPR and CPI certifications (or obtained within first 30 days of hire).

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:
Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
