At Houston Methodist, the Psychology Fellow position is responsible for providing supervised treatment of patients in multiple populations. Populations that this position will work with include but are not limited to: individuals with chronic psychiatric illness (e.g., treatment resistant depression, borderline personality disorder), somatic system disorder (e.g., non-epileptic events, psychogenic movement disorders) as well as chronic pain and opioid dependency. This position demonstrates competence to adapt to work and customer service to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and other developmental needs of patients served. The Psychology Fellow position will also demonstrate a commitment to clinical and research competency through involvement in Grand Rounds at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston as well as Houston Methodist. This position will complete multiple projects throughout the year including a detailed diagnostic evaluation and case formulation on a patient. The Psychology Fellow position will also be required to prepare and submit an empirical or theoretical article to a refereed journal.
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team-focused work unit that actively helps one other to achieve optimal department results. Responsible for a minimum of two hours of direct supervision each week with a licensed clinical psychologist.
- Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner Establishes clear communications and builds positive relationships with patients, physicians and other care providers.
- Attends all team meetings as required. The goal of the team meetings is to allow for exposure to various theoretical perspectives, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), (cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-base therapy (MBT).
- Provides contributions towards improvement of department scores for employee engagement on department scorecard, i.e. peer-to-peer accountability.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Adheres to all guidelines governing the scope of practice for a Psychology Fellow.
- Adheres to organizational policies and procedures according to prescribed guidelines. Manages all reporting and record-keeping functions within their realm of control.
- Contributes to meeting/exceeding department and organization targets for patient satisfaction.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Ensures delivery of quality patient care while prioritizing patient safey.
- Responsible for clinically accurate and comprehensive patient assessment.
- Ensures compliance and appropriate utilization of information technology resources to include enterprise practice management (EPM)/electronic medical record (EMR) and telephonic systems. Exhibits expertise in utilizing EPM/EMR.
- Identifies and escalates issues and opportunities for improvement. Follows up on action items to ensure completion of assignments. Contributes towards improving department/practice quality and safety scores.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Responsible for accurate financial documentation including charges and superbills .
- With guidance, uses resources efficiently to maximize utilization of time and equipment. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize tasks for self and clinical fellowship assignments.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Attends CME activities, Grand Rounds and appropriate conferences throughout the year. Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual process improvements. Remains current on professional issues and clinical skills. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis.
- Submits an empirical or theoretical article to a referred journal by the conclusion of the fellowship.
