Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist Senior maintains responsibility for preparation of the surgical suite, intra operative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. Is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. Serves as a Preceptor and engages with management and education team on curriculum of education.
Essential Functions
- Provides sterile instruments and supplies during the surgical procedure.
- Performs surgical sponge, needle and instrument counts.
- Prepares case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments and medications/solutions for each surgical case.
- Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains a protective position throughout the case.
- Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment.
- Takes an active role in preference card building and management through communication with surgeons and EMIs
- Engages with surgeons to make suggestions regarding instrument sets (i.e. streamlining sets by removing instruments, combining sets, adding instruments that are always opened separately, etc)
- Actively engages in case costing by talking with surgeons regarding product usage, connects with EMIs to make cost savings suggestions, makes suggestions on how to eliminate waste on cases
Qualifications
- Preferred Associate's Degree
- 3 years of relevant experience Independent Surgical Technologist Practice Required
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
- CRT-Surgical Technologist, Certified (CST) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Upon Hire required Or
- CRT-Tech in Surgery (TS-C) - NCCT National Center for Competency Testing Tech in Surgery, Certified TS-C, NCCT Upon Hire required
