The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a Process Engineer II to be responsible for all phases of assigned silicone manufacturing process improvement projects, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost.
They will implement process improvements to meet quality standards, perform complex data analysis, safety evaluations, feasibility studies, solve problems, and create necessary documentation and aides in communication to personnel.
This role will be a full-time position based onsite at our Carpinteria, CA office.
What we’re looking for:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s of Science degree in chemical or materials engineering or in chemistry with an emphasis on data science, is required. An MS in related fields is preferred, along with working knowledge in statistics.
- Experience Required:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Engineering background, including expertise in chemical process control, data loggers, data mining, and analysis.
- Hands-on experience, familiarity with A3 or similar project management, and the ability to acquire advanced silicone chemistry knowledge are essential.
- Additional Qualifications:
- Prior experience in design and transfer design input for manufacturability is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel, VBA, Python, Copilot, Chat GBT 4 and MiniTab required, SAP experience, advanced AI and coding skills preferred.
- Experience in silicone manufacturing and silicone chemistry preferred.
- Applied engineering experience in a GMP manufacturing environment and working knowledge in Six Sigma, Lean Management, OSHA standards and problem-solving techniques preferred.
- Must possess excellent communication, and project presentation skills, be detail oriented, and flexible to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Must be a collaborative team player comfortable working on the manufacturing floor when needed and performing simple calculations on the spot.
How you will thrive and create an impact:
- Provide technical process ownership to core manufacturing processes, further develops process methods, equipment, and support infrastructure to optimize production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and quality performance using advanced data science skills.
- Develop new manufacturing processes and assess the adequacy of equipment to meet ever changing market/manufacturing demands.
- Provide operational leadership by managing the Process Design & Detail Engineering including performing process simulations, design calculations, Process Optimization, sizing & selection of equipment etc. Review of specifications, datasheets, and installation.
- Interact with customers, internal team members and vendors to develop process and equipment specifications.
- Prepare qualification reports, flow diagrams, and charts on research data and information.
- Implement and maintain appropriate engineering records consistent with cGMP and ISO regulations for production of silicone materials.
- Develop, implement and sustain reliability best practices to reduce unscheduled maintenance downtime and costs.
- Work closely with engineers/production staff. quality staff to monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of the plant.
- Optimize preventative and predictive maintenance programs, including Safety, Environmental, and Quality critical process control.
- Analyze downtime to identify chronic/sporadic failures and lead reliability improvement efforts.
- Make observations and take measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved.
- Monitor data loggers, SPC charts, trends, nonconformances and analyses manufacturing data for process improvements.
- Lead RCFE (Root Cause Failure Elimination) process to identify root cause and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence ensuring that all aspects of an operation or process meet specified regulations.
- Develop and utilize key reliability metrics to consistently measure performance.
- May provide long-range planning for the facility and equipment needs, including capital and major repairs.
- Support manufacturing and maintenance efforts as needed by the operation.
- Manage multiple projects as deemed necessary based on requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Transparency:
The expected pre-tax pay for this position is
$82,000.00 - $137,000.00
Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
