What this job involves: We are seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to join our team at a bio tech company. The ideal candidate will have expertise in air handling equipment, air filters, refrigeration systems, and HVAC systems. They will ensure compliance with regulations, monitor and maintain equipment, perform repairs, troubleshoot issues, and adhere to safety protocols. This position requires strong technical skills, adherence to regulations, and the ability to work in a team and customer service-oriented environment.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Expertise in air handling equipment and air filters, including DP monitoring and air balancing, refrigeration systems (specialty multi-circuit systems), DX systems, and process chillers/comfort chillers.
- Ensure compliance with NJ and EPA regulations for refrigerant management, including accurate record-keeping of refrigerant usage and inventory.
- Monitor and adjust operation of heat exchangers, HVAC systems, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, VAV systems, electrical systems, emergency backup systems, and hot water systems.
- Monitor and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment.
- Monitor and repair boilers, ventilating systems, hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, and filters.
- Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment, identify causes of malfunctions, and take corrective action as necessary.
- Install and repair plumbing, piping, tubing, wiring, motors, conduit, pumps, air compressors, heat exchangers, piping systems, valves, filters, and associated controls.
- Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on VFDs (variable frequency drives) used in HVAC units and pumps.
- Perform routine facility repairs such as sheetrock, patching, caulking, painting, lock repair, and piping.
- Proficient in the use of tools and equipment specific to the craft discipline.
- Understand and follow job-related work permits and complete Job Safety Analysis.
- Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) including rain gear, chemical protective clothing, respirators, safety harnesses, coveralls, hard hats, earplugs, and safety glasses.
- Estimate costs and order materials as needed.
- Operate man lifts, scissor lifts, forklifts, and respirator-fitted equipment.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Work on lifts and scaffolds in compliance with safety standards.
- Adhere to policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Maintain compliance with state, county, or city ordinances, codes, or laws.
- Document work performance and material procurement as directed.
- Fulfill any other assigned duties.
Schedule: Monday to Friday day shift schedule.
Desired or preferred experience and technical skills:
- Trade license, apprenticeship, or equivalent trade experience vocational certification preferred.
Required Skills and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Preferred experience with Siemens or Honeywell BAS systems.
- EPA Universal certification (Refrigeration) required.
- Must possess adequate skills to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a customer service environment and interact with clients.
- Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Fluent in English with conflict resolution skills and effective communication in oral and written reports.
- Proficient in computer-based systems and programs, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Must be physically capable of performing required job functions, including lifting, bending, and moving in a safe manner. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Work at heights and perform overhead work as required.
- Skilled and physically able to operate electric hand tools, work on ladders, carry tools, lift and transport heavy loads, operate necessary equipment, and drive a motor vehicle.
- Able to work in confined spaces such as closets, crawl spaces, attics, vaults, etc.
- Subject to 24-hour availability and willing to work in all weather conditions.
- Environmental conditions will vary based on job requirements, including the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
