About the unit:
- Newly constructed 19-bed closed observation unit – focus on the following diagnoses:
- Chest pain, Syncope, COPD Astha Exacerbation, Pneumonia, TIA, UTI, AKI, Dizziness & Peripheral Vertigo, ESRD and Missed Dialysis, Cellulitis and Intractable Nausea and Vomiting.
- Plan of care focused on discharging patients safely with protocolized care pathways within 24 hours
- Increased nurse autonomy in facilitating care plan with support of Charge Nurse and Throughput Nurse
- Designated provider team (MDs/ APPs) available with Care Management support
JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Nurse Manager is a supportive role to the unit Nurse Manager and staff. This role has 24/7 accountability with a focus on improving and sustaining positive patient outcomes, the patient experience, facilitating patient throughput, staff engagement, operations, fiscal and change management. In addition, it will be a requirement for this individual to maintain basic nursing skills as required by his/her specialty. The individual must demonstrate basic competence in clinical, ethical, and legal aspects surrounding the provision of patient care. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager will assume full oversight and responsibilities for their assigned unit/s. Position is 50% clinical staffing and a 50% administration with ensuring successful unit and hospital clinical performance.
- Assist with ensuring successful unit and hospital clinical performance. Ability to identify gaps to improve and sustain clinical performance.
- Collaborates with nursing and other organizational leaders on initiatives to achieve and sustain HCAHPS and Press Ganey results that reflect the patient experience.
- Ensure timely patient throughput by identifying and removing barriers that prevent the facilitation of patient placements.
- Maintains competent in specialty area. Demonstrates proficiency in clinical/ethical/legal aspects surrounding the provision of patient care. Assist with developing and setting strategic target plans for unit outcomes and other clinical initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with the Nurse Manager to build positive, productive working relationships with the staff ensuring that the staff are engaged and committed to the organizational strategic plan.
- Serves as our foundation for excellence by influencing our decisions and shaping our actions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Valid RN License in the State of Maryland or Compact License (as applicable)
- 1-3 years of experience required
- Current BLS Certification from the American Heart Association
- PALS and ACLS Certification required within 6 months of hire
