For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. JOB SUMMARY
Demonstrates clinical competence through utilization of the nursing process. Assesses and identifies patient problems/needs, assists in establishing a plan of care, implements and evaluates care provided to patients. In this role, assists patients with discharge education and post transition care issues.
Under the direction of the Regional Director of Hospital Medicine, responsible for managing daily operational activities and support of the department to ensure efficiency and flow, and acts as the point person for any and all practice related activities and issues.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a school of nursing. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Two years’ experience in acute hospital setting or outpatient setting required; three to five years preferred
- Current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
Basic knowledge of Nursing principles and practices. Communicates effectively in order to provide technical or complex information as well as instruction. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers and patients. Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible and a team player. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Commitment to customer service.

Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather and interpret information from various sources. Able to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems and/or emergency situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
