POSITION: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

REPORTS TO: Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer
TYPE: Full-Time / Part Time
SALARY: Negotiable
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer, the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner provides primary medical care and associated services to pediatric patients of MCHC with the option to extend to other facilities as determined by MCHC. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner executes high-quality, evidence-based care in accordance with pediatric best practices.
Responsibilities
80 % Serve as an agent of the supervising primary care physician by providing the following to pediatric patients from birth through age 21 years:
- Perform and document medical histories and exams, including developmental screening and routine preventive care measures;
- Maintain current, accurate and appropriately detailed medical records for each patient;
- Prescribe and/or dispense medications to patients, including Schedule II-V substances, as needed;
- Assess patients' immunization statuses and determine appropriate immunization schedules per CDC guidelines;
- Order diagnostic tests, interpret results, and determine plans in partnership with patients and/or their caregivers;
- Refer to specialists and coordinate care among and between other interdisciplinary team members as needed;
- Adhere to medico-legal standards of care for pediatric practice at all times;
- Maintain competence in all diagnostic and/or surgical procedures qualified to perform per scope of practice;
- Perform ongoing, self-directed continuing medical education with a focus on health promotion and preventive care services.
20 % Administrative Duties
- Attend all departmental meetings, staff meetings and provider meetings except when on leave or excused by the Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer;
- Participate in quality improvement, quality assurance, utilization review and other agency audits as related to pediatrics;
- Participate on committees related to pediatric practice as needed;
- Assist in the development of pediatric practice guidelines, clinical protocols, or other educational programs;
- Participate in off-site pediatric initiatives through MCHC or affiliated organizations as determined by the Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer;
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer.
Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program;
Active Massachusetts Certified Nurse Practitioner License;
Current certification through either the PNCB or ANCC;
At least 1 year of experience in providing direct clinical care in a pediatric ambulatory setting.
Possess and maintain, or be eligible for, a Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration (MCSR) and DEA license;
Current Basic Life Support and CPR certification;
Adherence to continuing medical education requirements per the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the PNCB or ANCC.
