Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education. The Medical Lab Scientist's salary starts at $24.74/hour!
- Automated testing lab including the following departments:
- Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Specimen Processing departments.
- This position will support the ATL as well as Microbiology, which will include planting, gram staining, Covid analysis, kit testing to name a few.
- Interact courteously and professionally with laboratory customers.
- Respond promptly to telephone inquiries.
- Follow established procedures for specimen collection and processing.
- Perform accurate qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures.
- Recognize critical test results and take appropriate action.
- Maintain equipment, perform quality control checks, and manage supplies.
- Stay knowledgeable about techniques and principles.
- Assist with test development and evaluation.
- Perform High Complexity Testing without direct supervision
- Assume temporary first-line supervision as needed.
- Train new employees, students, and residents.
MLS:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Lab Scientist program,
- OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent categorical or MLT certification,
- OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
- Prefer 1 year experience in a hospital laboratory. Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
MLT:
- Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT),
- OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science,
- OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing. Minimum 1year's experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred. New York License required for NY locations.
