The Building Maintenance & Services Division is a key member of the Facilities & Maintenance Department. The Facilities Technician IVs report to a facilities Supervisor and are responsible for welding, fabrication, mechanical work. The RTAA Facilities Technician IVs are also part of our larger RTAA customer service team. This team is dedicated to helping provide the public with a pleasant and safe experience while traveling through the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. All RTAA's Facilities Technician IVs are expected to approach their work with a positive, helpful, customer service mindset.
The nature of the work requires a strong understanding of commercial welding, fabrication and mechanical work on designs and fabricates equipment; prepares materials to be welded; performs skilled welding work using welding equipment. Repairs and maintains automatic doors, overhead doors, and baggage belts.
There is one (1) position open. Both internal and external applicants will be considered. Applicants must be available to work all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) 7 days a week - including holidays. To be considered for this position, applicants must indicate they are available for day, swing and night shifts (all three), and must check the appropriate boxes under availability on the RTAA online application. Shift assignments are generally determined by seniority using a Shift Bid System. The current shift structure is a 4 days per week / 10 hours per day schedule.

Key Accountabilities
- Operates, maintains, and repairs mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, paint sprayers, welders, plumbing snakes, routers, grinders, electric generators, gas, diesel, and natural gas engines.
- Programs and operates direct digital controllers including designing control, scheduling, and energy management strategies.
- Draws, reads, and interprets sketches, diagrams, drawings and blueprints.
- Repairs and installs electrical lighting systems and fixtures.
- Assists in coordinating facility construction and maintenance services activities with other RTAA divisions and with outside agencies.
- Completes carpentry, electrical, painting, electronics, plastering, plumbing and mechanical repair work assignments by constructing, maintaining, and repairing RTAA facilities, equipment and buildings.
- Inspects buildings, systems and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
- Keeps current on appropriate codes, procedures, and policies as they are updated.
- Participates in snow removal by keeping the landside roads, parking areas, ramps and walkways clear through the use of snowplows, sweepers, blowers and hand shovels.
- Other duties as assigned.
The Physical Demands of the Work May Include:
- Sufficient dexterity to enable regular use of hands and fingers to operate various types of HVAC tools and equipment.
- The ability to accurately identify color-coded cables and wires, in variable lighting conditions.
- The ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch down, stoop, crawl, twist, and climb.
- The ability to perform light to strenuous physical/manual labor as required.
- The ability to use safe lifting techniques to routinely lift/carry/push/pull 25-pound objects and occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
The Working Conditions May Include:
- Performing work under various environmental conditions (within both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments) involving exposure to cold, heat, and inclement weather.
- Performing work at heights and/or within confined/cramped spaces.
- Performing work around moderate to high noise levels, vibrations, chemicals, dust, flammable materials, construction materials, mechanical equipment, and electrical hazards.
- Incumbents shall be expected to wear appropriate (PPE) personal protective safety equipment including safety shoes, glasses/goggles, ear plugs, gloves and other safety gear as needed.
Salary: $24.64 - $28.95 per hour. Opportunity for merit-based increases and progression through the classification series to the wage maximum of $35.40 per hour. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. In addition, employees working non-day shifts receive additional shift differential pay. This is an hourly and overtime eligible position.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent certificate.
