Job Overview
Samuel Hale is looking for a qualified Jr Workers' Compensation Underwriter to join our team. The Jr Workers' Compensation Underwriter is critically important as they evaluate new and potential clients' level of risk. The Jr Workers' Compensation Underwriter helps to assure that new clients fit into the Samuel Hale mix of clients and are placed in the right worker's compensation program. This position is responsible for the evaluation, selection, acceptance, rejection, and servicing of workers' compensation insurance policies within accepted company procedures and guidelines.
An ideal candidate will have the ability to manage and execute the coordination of multiple projects within required timeframes and expectations; demonstrate excellence in communication skills; a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products: and demonstrate the ability to perform detail-oriented tasks while interacting, coordinating, and following up with clients, co-workers, Senior Management, Third-Party Administrators, or Insurance Brokers.
A day in the life.
- Review PEO sales submissions to evaluate prospective clients' degree of workers' compensation risk and make data-driven recommendations accordingly.
- Partner with sales and safety departments to gather complete and accurate information to support underwriting decisions.
- Conducts current PEO workers' compensation client base audits to ensure both client and worksite employee classifications are correct and updated and that proper premium collection is maintained.
- Update underwriting procedures, policies, communications, classifications, and rates to maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations.
- Respond accurately and timely to all information requests from PEO, internal departments, insurance brokers, and regulatory agencies to provide a high level of service accountability.
- Assist management in evaluating information to determine the suitability of continuing individual client relationships throughout the client renewal process.
- Partner with the Safety and Loss team to gather complete and accurate information to support workers' compensation decisions.
- Work in our payroll systems and CRM to manage and update worksite locations, requests for certifications, and other required/relevant information.
- Other duties as assigned to support the general purpose of the position's function.
This role requires.
- 1 to 3 years of workers' compensation underwriting experience.
- A degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Experience working in or with a PEO or staffing company.
- Proficiency in using Office 365 and Microsoft Excel.
- Responsive and self-motivated team player.
- Outstanding customer care.
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Familiarity and comfort working in payroll systems, CRMs, and other computer software systems.
