The Assistant Controller will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.

Manage Staff Accountants and Accounting Associate by making routine employment decisions, review job performance, propose salary recommendations, assign tasks and responsibilities, provide training and guidance, focus on employee development, and resolve routine issues that may arise.
- Ensures that balance sheet accounts are reconciled according to the Bank's reconciliation schedule. Monitors general ledger balance sheet accounts daily for unusual or incorrect posting items. Reviews reconciliations performed by other departments or other Accounting and Finance personnel for issues requiring explanation and resolution. Researches and resolves any unusual and/or outstanding issues on all reconciliations.
- Prepares assigned internal and external regulatory reports including the quarterly FDIC Call Report.
- Ensures that fixed assets and other prepaid accounts are set up, amortized properly and are proved on a monthly basis. Verify that fixed asset back-up documentation is complete and accurate. Prepares fixed asset roll forward monthly.
- Assists the Controller with the month end closing process of the general ledger by compiling and processing month end entries. Researches and resolves any balance sheet/general ledger account issues prior to month end close.
- Assists the Controller with preparation of the annual budget.
- Assists with maintenance to the general ledger chart of accounts and interface table.
- Develops, recommends and implements any new accounting procedures as needed for the Accounting Department, Branch Operations, Residential Lending and Loan Servicing Departments. Evaluates effectiveness of existing procedures, focuses on process improvement and creating efficiencies, develops and implements modifications and enhancements as needed. Provides technical advice and direction with accounting questions.
- Supervises accounts payable process including managing user access rights, roles, and workflows in the Avid accounts payable module. Reviews expenses incurred by the Bank; identify and research large and unusual items to ensure proper payment authorizations. Oversees the Bank's corporate credit card program.
- Provides assistance and information to auditors, regulators, senior management and other members of Bank staff as requested.
- Works with Controller to implement and utilize accounting systems needed to meet the informational needs of the Bank such as budgeting, data warehouse, profitability and any other systems as necessary. Perform certain duties of the Controller in the event of absence.
- Ensures that all activities are in compliance with GAAP, FDIC and all other internal and external standards and regulations.
- Resolves problems with accounting software with software providers, as necessary.
- Perform additional duties as requested, needed or assigned.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field required.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and techniques required.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience in banking or bank related field.
- Must have strong technical skills and working proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of FIS Core system and Peoplesoft general ledger, a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment.
- Good working knowledge of other departments in the Bank as they relate to accounting operations.
- 1 – 2 years of supervisory experience, including developing a team, strongly preferred.
