Description:
Creates and maintains Computer Aided Design (CAD) engineering drawings. Creates part drawings, assembly drawings, and exploded view drawings and edits drawings with latest Engineering Change Order updates. Translates CAD Data from a variety of different software packages (Pro/E, Illustrator, PDF, etc) using best practices or creates SolidWorks models and drawings from print data. Provides complete Technical Documentation Package to key stakeholders. Key member of three discipline team that is the liaison between engineering and production: Mechanical Engineer, Control Drawing Draftsman and Documentation Control Specialist. Works with other team members as well as Industrial Designers. Specifically answers to Manager of Concept Development and Mechanical Designers. This is an on-site position at our HQ in Carbondale, PA.
EDUCATION:
Technical School – CAD and Drafting
or
College – 2 year degree in CAD/Drafting or mechanical engineering from an accredited school
EXPERIENCE:
3-5 plus years of experience in Computer Aided Drafting including 3 years SolidWorks and PDM (or EPDM) experience minimum.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Possess good computer skills, including experience with 2D and 3D CAD and Microsoft software programs. Expert knowledge with SolidWorks is required.
• Pro/E knowledge or exposure is desirable
• Thorough understanding of ASME drawing standards.
• Thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) techniques.
• Be self-motivated, have good team skills, and possess strong interpersonal skills.
• Be able to read and understand product data sheets, MSDS, and material specifications.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create and maintain engineering CAD drawings.
• Create component and assembly drawings using SolidWorks.
• Prepare ECRs and ECOs based on input from the design engineer. Research and identify other documents affected by the change.
• Perform assigned tasks in accordance with established ISO 9001 procedures.
• Update, Organize, and maintain Solid Works EPDM Vault.
• Transfer Legacy Pro-E Models into Solid Works EPDM Vault
• Solid understanding of documenting plastic, sheet metal, and screw machine components with textiles desired.
• Detailing and formalizing of basic to complex parts based on input from Design and Engineering
• Performs assigned tasks in accordance with company established procedures and direction from senior engineers and supervisors.
• Understanding and experience with CAD translators such as igs, dxf, Parasolid, stp, ai, etc.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS:
Internal: The Drafter interfaces frequently with others within the engineering department and employees from quality, manufacturing, engineering, program management, supply chain, sales, customer service, business development, and employees from other GENTEX locations.
External: The Drafter may occasionally communicate with others outside the company, such as suppliers and subcontractors.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, and numerical intelligence.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works majority of the day in a climate controlled environment, with the exception of occasionally performing work in the production floor, which is subject to moderate changes in temperature.
