The Software organization develops software applications, including integration and test on missiles, launchers, radars, naval systems, fire control and other complex systems. Our precision software and firmware integrate operating systems, device drivers, networking, and control software to bring together sensor, guidance, and flight control processing features to complete the mission. The Software org is made up of several Centers located across the country, responsible for all aspects of the software development lifecycle. This Senior Principal Software Engineer/ Software Technical Authority position will support major Naval Power and Air, Space and Defense Systems missile program efforts. This individual needs to be a proven Real-Time Embedded Software Subject Matter Expert with a recent track record of successfully designing and developing flight software for missile interceptors.
The Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) SW Technical Authority is responsible for architecting, developing, and integrating Real-Time Embedded Software on target hardware environments. In addition, the SW Technical Authority will be the primary Software Engineering interface to the customer technical community, Office of the Chief Engineer, Program Management, and other program stakeholders. The responsibilities for the SW Technical Authority encompass the following: technical execution and leading the team through the Software Development lifecycle (SRR, PDR, CDR, FQT), including transition production.
This position is within the Effectors Center of the Software organization, and is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do
- Plan/schedule tasks and design, develop, and maintain advanced software applications for our interceptor missiles.
- Work in close collaboration with systems engineers, hardware designers, and other software engineers to deliver reliable and high-performance software solutions.
- Design, implement, and test applications and software components for tactical and factory systems.
- Work in a systems Model Based Systems Engineering Architecture (MBSE) role.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and specifications.
- Work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary.
- Ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities.
- Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of their immediate supervisor.
- Follow established Software processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts.
- Understand, evaluate, and develop metrics to assess product health and schedule.

Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and 10 years prior relevant experience.
- Experience developing embedded software utilizing C, C++.
- Experience architecting, developing, and integrating real time embedded software for tactical flight and factory software, including on target hardware.
- Experience as a Team Lead, Technical Lead, and/or Subject Matter Expert (SME) in fields of knowledge (EO, GNC, RADAR, GPS, Data Links, Launch Platforms (Shipboard and Ground Systems).
- Experience developing software board support package (BSP), Wind River VxWorks for C/C++ or equivalent development tools.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience in systems engineering related to Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and architecture.
- Software development experience using C. C++ in both Windows and Linux
- Agile software development experience.
- Software architecture and algorithm development experience.
- Cyber Security experience
- Experience with software automated test tools such as GoogleTest for Unit Testing, Maveric, Python scripts (or equivalent).

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
