Job Description Summary:
Surgical Short Stay unit (SSU) primarily sees post-operative patients who require a 24 hour stay or less. We have several same day surgeries as well. The goal of our unit is to discharge patients quickly and safely once discharge criteria is met. Upon arrival to the unit, we set the expectation that the goals of our patients are to Walk, Eat (tolerate solid foods), Void spontaneously, and that pain is under control. Common Surgeries we see- Hysterectomy, hernia repair, Thyroidectomy, lap cholecystectomy, lap appendectomy, excision of endometriosis, robotic prostatectomy, nephrectomy, and transurethral resection of the prostate. We are primary care, meaning we do not have PSAs. Since our patients are only here for 24 hours, we do not need to give baths. Nurses are expected to get vitals, check blood sugars as ordered, track urine output, walk patients, and answer call lights.
We have an Administrative Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Manager, and a Clinical Leader for SSU.
This position provides general nursing care to patients and families along the health illness continuum in diverse health care settings while collaborating with the health care team. He/She is accountable for the practice of nursing as defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
