Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Staunton District is seeking a highly qualified Roadway Design Engineer to design, manage, and produce Right of Way and Construction Roadway in an accurate and precise manner.
As the selected candidate you will:
• Work with team members and consultants and will maintain applicable skills in new design technology/construction methodology.
• Develop and review sub-components and complete roadway designs using automated engineering and design software from scoping to advertisement for a wide range of transportation projects.
• Assist in the management of projects and tasks including development of and managing the scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, change management, quality, and status reports.
• Provide extraordinary customer service and engage all stakeholders to develop solutions that balance the needs of citizens, special interest groups, and local governments.
Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated knowledge of roadway and drainage design criteria, project management, construction methods, standards, specifications, & materials.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Civil Engineering principles as they relate to roadway design & standard design technical knowledge.
• Knowledge of principles of roadway safety that impact roadway standards & special designs.
• Skill in effective communication, both in writing & verbally, with diverse groups and the demonstrated ability to train others to effectively plan & schedule work.
Additional Considerations
• Knowledge of civil engineering principles related to VDOT roadway design, and AASHTO policies and procedures.
• Experience utilizing VDOT’s Road and Bridge Specifications & Standards.
• Experience with field investigations to evaluate, design, and recommend solutions for roadway concerns resulting from construction, maintenance, and citizen complaints.
• Experience using CADD, to include Microstation, OpenRoads, and/or Civil 3D in designing and delivering projects.
• Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or equivalent education/experience is preferred.
• Engineer-In-Training or Professional Engineer License is a plus!
