POSITION SCOPE The
Heavy Equipment Mechanic will manage all aspects of equipment maintenance and repair for concrete paving projects. This position will be a traveling position where the qualified applicant will be required to integrate and travel with a paving crew to assist in all assigned functions. The individual must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced work environment. Some night and weekend work will be required. Per Diem when applicable
PRIMARY DUTIES - Above all, insure that safe practices are followed in all aspects of daily activities
- Diagnose/troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues accurately the first time; identify parts needed for repairs
- Read schematics, diagrams, blue prints, etc. to assist with repairs and/or diagnostics
- Diagnose complex electric, hydraulic, and mechanical issues
- Remove, replace, and repair major components on all types of paving and heavy construction equipment
- Perform routine services on heavy equipment
- Perform on-site repairs in the field as needed in a fast-paced environment
- Document and record work performed and parts used
- Communicate with equipment operators to assess machine performance
- Some weekend and night work may be required
- Travel will be required
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Other duties as assigned
- This position requires a person who is self-motivated, professional, and willing to be a team player
- SWCP pays California wages and Davis Bacon rates when applicable
BACKGROUND - Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test as well as random tests
- Must be able to pass a Dept. of Defense background screening (No Felonies)
- Performs other duties as instructed by supervisor. Will report to site superintendent or project manager when assigned to jobsite
- Full time permanent position
- Must have at least 1-year experience in working on heavy equipment and commercial trucks
- Experience with working on dump trucks and mixers preferred
- Must have safe driving record
- Must be willing to travel 25%
- Must be able to work days, nights, or weekends
- Must have own tools
EXPERIENCE - High school or equivalent (Preferred)
- Heavy Equipment Mechanic: 5 years (Preferred)
- Truck Mechanic: 1 year (Preferred)
- Basic welding skills, stick and wire
- Some Computer Skills - basic knowledge of third party CAT, and similar programs
- Strong hydraulic and electric over hydraulic
LICENSE - ASE Certification (Preferred)
- CDL Certified (Preferred)
- Obtain DOT health Card (Required)
