POSITION SUMMARYAssist with surgical patient care in a timely and accurate manner.
POSITION REQUIREMENTSFormal Education / Training:
High School Graduate.
Surgery experience, and/or completion of orientation as Patient Assist Level I.
Workplace Experience:

Equipment and Skills Training:
The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently. Standard patient care equipment for services provided. Network computer system.
Physical Environment:
A Surgery Unit with patient population ranging from less than one year of age> ninety-nine plus years of age.
Physical Effort:
- Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
- Able to stand/work for up to twelve hours a day.
- Able to lift and turn patients with assistance up to 250 lbs.
- Able to transport patients on stretcher or bed as necessary.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS - Assists with the patient's care, reports problems/needs, and performs interventions consistent with identified problems as directed by the nurse.
- Collaborates with appropriate health care team members to help coordinate the delivery of patient care in a timely manner.
- Handles/ transports medications/ solutions safely and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains a sterile field by using principles of aseptic practice in varying situations, initiates corrective action when break in technique occurs, communicates maintenance of sterile field.
- Assists with control of the OR Suite environment (temperature, humidity, and sensory) maintain traffic patterns, and adheres to OR sanitation policies.
- Return equipment and supplies to proper place and prepare OR room for next case.
- Maintains work environment and organizes unit.
- Maintains position specific qualifications.
- Demonstrates responsibility for assigned communications.
- Responds to radio and reports promptly
- Makes coordinator or secretary aware of location when leaving unit.
- Turns over operating rooms effectively and efficiently.
