Key Responsibilities: - Preoperative Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to ensure patients are prepared for surgery, addressing any concerns or medical history issues.
- Surgical Assistance: Assist surgeons during surgical procedures, including passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and providing necessary equipment and supplies.
- Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical experience, addressing any concerns or changes in the patient's condition promptly.
- Sterile Technique: Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room, including proper sterilization of instruments and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Patient Education: Provide patients and their families with preoperative and postoperative education to ensure understanding and compliance with care plans.
- Documentation: Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of surgical procedures.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergency situations during surgery, including code situations, while maintaining composure and following established protocols.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning and availability of surgical equipment and instruments, reporting any malfunctions or deficiencies promptly.
Qualifications: - Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in state of practice
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in perioperative nursing or operating room setting
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
