POSITION TITLE: Infection Prevention RN

Mission of Department: Dedicated to providing the highest standard of care, to assure patient care and safety, to promote good working relations within departments.
Purpose of Position: Provide surveillance throughout the hospital for infection control purposes. Identifies, investigates and records data concerning nosocomial infections. Initiates prevention measures as directed by infection prevention committee.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention standards.
- Consult with infection prevention committee concerning the implementation of infection prevention programs and help in development of data gathering, establishment of policies and procedures, and control measures. Keeps committee informed of all surveillance findings and control activities.
- Consult with other departments on the implementation of the infection prevention policies and procedures, identify and isolation of infections, and related problems.
- Make regular rounds seeking clues of infection and maintain cont. record of each infection noted.
- Collect stats and prepare and submit regular reports to infection prevention committee.
- Implement and teach infection prevention measures and techniques to all hospital personnel involved in patient care, including conducting hospital wide employee meetings as required.
- Maintain and update infection prevention manual.
- Report all communicable diseases to public health officials.
- Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
- Prepare documents as required by the profession and the department.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops.
- Attend required meetings.
- New employee inservice.

Assist with and maintain a log of antibiotics stewardship activities.
Education, Qualifications, Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
RN license in State of Kansas.
CPR Certification.
Personal Characteristics:
Able to be self motivated. Work alone and with others well.
Expectation of Service: This is a non-exempt 20-40 hour per week position. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Physical Requirements: Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-50 pounds with occasional lifting/carrying 51-75 pounds; frequent reaching/grasping, twisting, pulling/pushing, occasional exposure to Sharp instruments, exposure to dust and fumes. Frequent exposure to equipment. Continuosly writing in English and working irregular hours. See attached Physical, Sensory and Mental Requirements portion of the job description.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Continue to read and attend meetings regarding infection control.
Equipment:
No special equipment except know how the isolation room, room 102, works with air exchange.
