Responsibilities- Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
- Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
- Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
- Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
- Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport.
- Responsible for patient registration, lab test ordering, specimen receipt, accessioning, processing and specimen distribution according to protocol.
- Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
- Performs proper drug screen collection and processing, as assigned
- Answers laboratory department phone calls.
- Monitors phlebotomy draw list and assigns/dispatches phlebotomists to draw specimens as assigned.
- Courier duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts appropriately.
- Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient centered manner as assigned.
- Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
- Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
- Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory.
- May work with multiple departments within the laboratory or across the hospital/health system.
- Performs laboratory tests in compliance with policies and procedures as assigned.
- Assists in preparing laboratory equipment for testing.
- Assists other laboratory personnel with laboratory related processes as assigned.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Job Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Job Requirements
- Certification from nationally recognized agency as a phlebotomist upon hire
- Certification from a nationally recognized agency as a medical lab assistant within 2 years of hire date
- Experience working in the clinical setting
