Job Summary
This is highly skilled work in the performance of all aspects of maintenance of structures and plumbing equipment and systems on County property. An employee in this class is responsible for maintaining all plumbing and related systems of County property. All work is under the limited general supervision of the Director of Property Maintenance. Supervises skilled, semi- skilled, and unskilled employees; and performs related work as required. Must be able to supervise and work with Jail inmates and to adhere to the County Jail guidelines.
Major Essential Duties
- Assumes the responsibilities of operation and maintenance of all plumbing equipment and related systems in county buildings. Duties include preventive maintenance of all equipment, resolve difficulties involved with equipment.
- Assists with the purchasing of supplies needed for the functioning of equipment.
- Daily management of County plumbing systems to include maintenance and repair.
- Recommend projects and evaluates same for consideration as to the availability of funds.
- Sets broad program of goals and priorities.
- Sets up complete preventive maintenance program.
- This employee analyzes results and recommends changes.
- This employee is required to isolate, define, and resolve unknown conditions.
- Must keep abreast of O.S.H.A. regulations.
- This employee is required to do physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and lifting of moderately heavy items.
- Ability to analyze, inspect, install, repair, and maintain plumbing equipment and other related systems. Practical knowledge of standard procedures in technical field. Skilled in the use and care of hand tools, machine tools and related equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions are necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties
- Knowledge of buildings and supervisory skills.
- Ability to understand complex written and oral instructions.
- Work with fire protection services to assure all systems are inspected and operational for all county properties.
Minor Essential Duties
- Performs related duties as required
- On call 24 hours a day with the ability to participate on a rotating emergency pager schedule.
- May work overtime as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Ability to coordinate effectively the activities of a number of skilled and unskilled employees and/or jail inmates in all aspects of maintenance projects.
Relationships
- The Maintenance Technician performs duties within the Property Maintenance Department under the direct supervision of the Director of Property Maintenance.
Requirements:
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- Considerable experience in the maintenance of plumbing equipment and systems; or any combination of experience and training which provides the desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities with three (3) to five (5) years experience.
- Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school or the equivalency.
Language Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, equipment manuals, and safety documents
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
Reasoning Skills
- Solves practical problems
- Reading a ruler / measurements
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Possession of or ability to obtain promptly, a motor vehicle operator's license.
- Licensed Kentucky Plumber ( journeyman or Master)
- Back flow testing certification is preferred.

While performing job duties, the employee could reasonably be expected to:

- Temperature level will vary from extreme cold to extreme heat.
- Moisture level will vary from extreme dry to rain, snow, and icy conditions.
