Job Description
The Student Affairs Advisor is responsible for performing student and trainee support duties for educational programs residing under the Academic Affairs office, including degree and non-degree programs and the Postdoctoral Society. The Student Affairs Advisor will manage and support the daily needs of the student and trainee population. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to providing social, academic, and counseling services to current and potential students. Monitors the progress of students and trainees toward academic completion and performs related administrative and advisory duties. Provides ongoing development of internal programs; conducts institutional research to inform campus decision-making and planning in areas such as admissions, curriculum, enrollment management, staffing, student life and alumni relations and graduate tracking as it pertains to ongoing student development. The Student Services Advisor will be responsible for monitoring and providing progress reports on each student's advancement, performance and engagement as well as provides assistance to students to ensure their academic, personal, and professional success.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Administers new student orientation programs and activities to promote adjustment of students and trainees to educational programs and academic life.
- Assists with student life issues, counsels and/or refers students and trainees as appropriate. May arrange special events and serve on departmental academic committees.
- Prepares program documents and compiles data required for completion of various questionnaires and surveys for reporting statistics leading to program modification.
- Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of student social, recreational, and educational programs and services provided by Cedars-Sinai Health System (CSHS).
- Interfaces with CSHS administration and Academic Human Resources (AHR) as well as any regulatory and accrediting agencies on a regular basis to ensure the correct implementation of policies and procedures regarding student life.
- Integrates accountability measures, data on learning outcomes, and other survey and study data to provide comprehensive reporting and analyses on student development.
- Responsible for understanding the parameters of, and completing accurately and in a timely manner, all federally and state mandated student reporting.
- Tracks students and trainees in the Student Information Systems (SIS) for the purposes of student development and management.
- Assists in the administration of accommodation requests for students with disabilities in compliance with organization policy and procedures and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Serves as an advisor for any student-based organization and advises additional student clubs and organizations concerning program development and expenditure of funds.
- Advises students and trainees on matters pertaining to cross cultural adjustment, academic, and financial concerns.
- Assists in the mediation, mentoring, and coaching of individual students and trainees regarding professionalism and conduct issues in accordance with organization policy and procedure.
- Schedules regular meetings with students and trainees to gauge progress and development.
- Maintains excellent relationships with colleagues, locally, nationally, and internationally; has an excellent, productive relationship with accrediting organization and other universities and colleges.
Qualifications Educational Requirements: - Bachelor degree in psychology, Sociology, Communications, or Education minimum.
- Masters degree in psychology, Sociology, Communications, or Education preferred
Educational Requirements: • Five years of Experience advising graduate students on complex academic regulations and procedures.
• Five years of Experience working independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Five years of Experience communicating with both faculty and students, and capable of creating liaisons among stakeholders.
• Five years of Experience and ability in writing concise, logical, and correct correspondence, with knowledge of educational attainment levels.
• Five years of Experience in computer analysis using SAS and computer programming using HTML and my SQL is preferred
