The Junior Grant Writer supports pre- and post-award processes, ensuring effective communication and record keeping. They track applications and awards, work with internal and external stakeholders to complete programmatic reports and write small grant applications as needed.
Reports To: Manager of Grants
essential duties
- Write and coordinate all reports as outlined in the Grants Reporting Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
- Coordinate with Program, Funders, Data, and other stakeholders to compile, create narratives and submit outcomes per Funder guidelines.
- Manage the shared Grants inbox per the Grants Inbox Management SOP, ensuring the correct stakeholders are informed of any communications.
- Manage the calendar for all Grants meetings and take Grant-related meeting notes.
- Follow up with stakeholders to determine status of applications, contracts, webinars, and other items.
- Manage all record keeping and dashboard tracking for pre- and post-award and enter information into NetSuite, Raiser’s Edge, and/or SharePoint.
- Assist Grant Team members with less complex applications when needed, per the RFP Management SOP.

a. Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a human-service or business-related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing, nonprofit development, administrative support, or other applicable experience.
- Experience with project management/donor tracking software such as Raiser’s Edge, preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS365 Power Platform.
b. Additional Requirements
- Must satisfactorily pass criminal history check.
- Must satisfactorily pass tuberculosis (TB) test.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver's license (or be able to obtain one by date of employment).
- Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth business, must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.
- Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
- Must successfully complete the following health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required. There are no exemptions.
