We are currently seeking a Senior Manager to join our Design Operations team. You will think strategically about how teams work together and how systems and structures scale with a deep understanding of best practices in program management. In this role you will rely on your judgment to influence cross-functional stakeholders, communication skills to create clarity, and a results-focused mindset to solve complex and ambiguous problems.
This role partners directly with a VP of Design, serving as a trusted advisor and thought partner. While this role is an individual contributor, success relies heavily on building authentic relationships with peers, partners and leaders.

What You’ll Do:
You’ll be asked to handle a variety of responsibilities, including:
Portfolio Management:
Develop routines to track and prioritize initiatives, including resource allocation to meet business needs
Refine and manage capacity allocation and alignment systems
Build and maintain strong working relationships with product and tech partners to share design’s working model
Provide accurate reporting to cross-functional leadership on portfolio status, resourcing, issues, and priorities.
Business & People Operations:
Manage business critical relationships (such as HR, Finance, Talent Acquisition) on behalf of leadership
Budget and headcount management, advocating for investment in design as appropriate for the business needs.
Support the hiring and onboarding of employees, manage contractors and vendors, strategically balance attrition.
Keeping a finger on the culture pulse and actively participating in shaping it; focusing on morale, attrition, and unspoken feedback.
Design Standards & Practice Management:
Create and optimize end to end routines that drive design quality
Collaborate with peers across the broader Design organization on priority initiatives, scaling best practices, and building new processes to ensure the organization is well managed
Shape agendas and facilitate team meetings, leadership team sessions, and other events/meetings as needed
Basic Qualifications
7 years relevant experience, including design management, project/program management of design deliverables, and/or operations management
4 years experience leading project delivery for large, cross functional projects
Experience working directly with designers, researchers, and strategists
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years working within the product development process between tech, product, and design
Experience building operation systems and programs at scale
Experience working with corporate design teams
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $199,100 - $227,200 for Sr. Manager, DesignCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
