Hanley Foundation, a non-profit organization based in West Palm Beach that aims to eliminate addiction through prevention, treatment, advocacy, and recovery support, seeks a Program Director to manage our expanding inpatient substance use and mental health treatment program. This new program will expand access to critical treatment services for an under-served population: Veterans and First Responders with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders. The ideal candidate is a veteran or former first responder with a Florida state license to practice as a therapist (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT). At Hanley Foundation, we are dedicated to serving veterans and first responders, who often face unique challenges in their recovery journey. This is a full-time position on-site in our West Palm Beach, Florida, treatment center.
The Program Director will manage this program, which offers comprehensive treatment services tailored to the specific needs of this population and has bravely served our country and communities. As Program Director, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the program’s continued success and positive impact on the lives of veterans and first responders seeking recovery. Your leadership and expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of this program.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the Veterans & First Responders Recovery Program, ensuring it aligns with the Foundation's mission, vision, and values.
- Develop, implement, and oversee program policies and procedures that promote evidence-based treatment practices and best practices for veterans and first responders with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders.
- Serve as the leader of a multidisciplinary treatment team; manage clinical staff, including task assignment, training, individual supervision, and evaluation(s) of job performance.
- Oversee the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based trauma therapy modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and treatment for Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD).
- Collaborate on interventions and extended referrals to ensure consistent internal and external customer service.
- Oversee daily clinical issues, including but not limited to meeting with patients and families, making decisions regarding unusual discharges, and providing proactive direction to minimize crises.
- Coordinate and develop therapeutic presentations provided on the treatment unit.
- Provide psycho-educational presentations and co-facilitate groups as needed.
- Promote the integration of a 12-step philosophy and a positive peer culture with patients, families, referrals, and Hanley Foundation employees.
- Serve as the point person for all public speaking events.
- Complete monthly Quality Performance Indicator assessments.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Accounting, Intake, Admissions, and Continuing Care departments to resolve problems and improve seamless continuum functioning. Ensure compliance with all state standards and accrediting bodies.
- Troubleshoot grievances and incident reports.
- Uphold all Hanley Foundation Care Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain patient/potential patient confidentiality following Hanley Foundation’s Policy.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge and ability to manage a multidisciplinary treatment team; ability to provide effective supervision, mentorship, and coaching to clinical staff.
- Knowledge of the unique challenges faced by veterans transitioning to civilian life, including combat stress, PTSD, and military sexual trauma (MST).
- Knowledge of the stressors and risks associated with first responder jobs, such as burnout, compassion fatigue, and critical incident stress management (CISM).
- Expertise in trauma-informed treatment models and their application to veterans and first responders.
- Knowledge and experience utilizing the 12-step Philosophy.
- Knowledge of available benefits and resources specific to these populations, including VA healthcare and support programs.
- Strong administrative skills, highly organized, and able to prioritize.
- Knowledge and ability in strategic planning and implementation.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft products and network components.
- Excellent communication skills that foster teamwork and high morale.
- Strong crisis intervention skills to manage situations involving mental health challenges or suicidal ideation.
- Empower and delegate key duties to others.
- Able to manage the client population utilizing a positive peer approach.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Florida state license to practice as a therapist (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT)·
- At least 3 years of experience working in the fields of substance use, mental health, and trauma-related care.
- Experience working with veterans and/or first responders with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders.
- Previous managerial experience in the substance use and mental health fields.
- Able to work outside standard work hours and be on-call to assist with mental health crises and other urgent patient needs.
- If in recovery, one (1) year of continuous sobriety is required. Exceptions to this requirement may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
