JOB SUMMARY
To serve as an expert in guiding all microbiology-related activities in the company, including those in the production plant and warehouses. Also provides input to research and development efforts relating to preservatives and microbiological effectiveness of formulations.
Participates in activities of industrial microbiology organizations to know the latest relevant developments and trends.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs duties of microbiologist.
- Assures that microbiological testing procedure being used, either internally or externally, are providing optimal results.
- Improves activities, procedures, and policies, as needed, to improve microbiological conditions within the company.
- Develops procedures to validate microbiological procedures.
- By partaking in industry microbiology organizations (e.g., PCPC), innovates new procedures and/or policies in the company.
- Serves as an internal consultant on microbiology-related activities, including dealing with hotel customers and guest supply sales force to resolve relevant problems and issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology or biology with an emphasis on microbiology.
Experience
- 6 years of relevant prior work experience is required.
Professional Skills
- Excellent ability to analyze microbiological data and draw logical conclusions.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Good math skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

- In addition to those made by the Microbiologist, determine if and how procedures relating to microbiological conditions should be changed to meet the company’s microbiological standards.
- Determine microbiological test methodologies that should be used across the company, including those used at external testing laboratories on our products.
Most important decisions made with review and approval of other individuals or supervisors (include the reviews/approvals required):
- Need approval from the technical director/quality manager to purchase new equipment and to attend training courses.
