What a CNC Machine Operator will do: - Process raw materials into machined parts as required for production jobs
- Produce standard and custom parts according to drawings and given schedule
- Set up and operate machinery such as Press Brake, Shear, Ironworker, Band Saw, Drill Press, Turning Lathe, Horizontal Mill, and other machines
- Understand and maintain machine capacities
- Ensure proper machine adjustments and maintenance
- Lay out raw materials for minimal drop
- Make sure drop material is picked up and in its proper location
- Follow all safety protocols when operating machinery
What you need to be a CNC Machine Operator: - Machine Tool Technology certificate or equivalent; or 3+ years of machining experience
- Knowledge of set setup and operation requirements of CNC machine tools (vertical and horizontal mills, conventional lathes and vertical lathes)
- Ability to read 1/8”, 1/16”, and 1/32” gradations
- Understand the conversion of inches/decimals (using a conversion chart)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Understanding of how to use and read micrometers, dial calipers, and veneer calipers
- Understanding of dimensions and sizing of common structural steel
- Ability to differentiate between various grades and types of steel
- Understanding of machine load limits and machine maintenance
