Job Description
As a Lead Machining Engineer for the Machining Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of machining processes within our manufacturing facility. The primary responsibility for this role is to develop and execute a departmental strategy, both short-term and long-term. The candidate will lead a technical team of engineers and technicians to perform the following activities: safety risk reduction, cost reduction/cost out projects, product cost estimating, maintaining production standards, developing standard work, assisting in the coordination of capital spending, ensuring accuracy of routings within ERP system, and assisting in new product launch during and after implementation.
Job Responsibilities
• Lead Machining Dept. strategy and implementation
• Plan and execute projects to drive continuous improvement regarding department KPI's
• Actively participate in daily performance review meetings
• Provide direction and coaching to a team of technical associates
• Own, prepare, and maintain all production standard work and production documentation
• Create and update CAD layouts
• Ensure that process improvements are accurately reflected in product costing software
• Participate in ergonomics team meetings with the goal of identifying and eliminating ergonomics risks
• Perform annual performance evaluations for direct reports along with periodic 1-on-1 reviews
• Evaluate customer returns for root cause and corrective actions, utilizing formal problem-solving tools such as 8D analysis, PFMEA's, Control plans, etc.
Background & Skills
• B.S. in Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering discipline and 2-5 years of engineering work in a manufacturing environment.
• Effective ability with problem-solving tools and methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, tool selection, and other similar experiences.
• Strong self-motivation and desire to work in a manufacturing environment
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Self-managed and able to provide and set direction for others to be successful
• Additional competencies for the position include the ability to manage multiple projects, process reliability experience, process improvement, large capital project work, excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with various computer software and applications such as CAD/CAM, 3D modeling, Excel, Word, MS Project, Minitab.
Working Conditions
• Work in production environment requiring PPE and lockout in manufacturing operations
• Manufacturing environment with the potential of working near hydraulic oils, cutting lubricants, steel, stainless steel, and brass materials
• Hands-on investigation and troubleshooting within equipment to countermeasure issues and to determine improvement activity
• 75% office environment/ 25% manufacturing lineside activity
• 5-10 hours overtime per week possible
• Possible weekend or off-shift support as necessary
• Travel 5% (domestic & international)
