The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for sustaining and improving medical injection molds and processes to achieve plant manufacturing objectives for safety, quality, on-time performance, and customer satisfaction. Ensures projects are completed within scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements via QMS (ISO 14385), Continuous Improvement, Lean, DBS, and Six Sigma methodologies.
This position is part of the Manufacturing Engineering Department (Plastics Operations) and will be onsite in Lodi, CA. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions. This position is on-site.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Oversees injection mold sustainment, repair, and requalification. Project management highly visible, strategic injection molding projects critical to operational success.
- Analyze manufacturing data from various sources (e.g., MES, Power BI, SAP, etc.) to identify and drive department activities.
- Facilitate / Lead Kaizen events in areas of scrap, variation reduction, process development, metrology, tool/part design, etc. as an SME.
- Coach / Mentor less experienced engineers in the areas of injection molding, IQ-OQ-PQ qualification, training, SOP / WI creation, continuous improvement, document control, and operational excellence
The essential requirements of the job include
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of related work experience OR master’s degree in field with 6+ years of related work experience OR Doctoral degree with 3+ years of work experience.
- Excellent verbal and written presentation skills. Ability to communicate directions, project requirements, and overall status updates tailored to the audience (e.g., executive leadership, peers, operators, etc.)
- Subject matter expert in injection molding (i.e., tooling, processing, and equipment)
- Hands-on, data-driven approach. This position requires to be at Gemba.
- Proficient in CAD software (Solidworks), GD&T, specifically translating requirements into measurements and assessing results.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Certification in project management (PMP), Six Sigma Black Belt, and/or RJG Master Molder.
- Certification in Quality Engineering. Experience in an FDA-regulated manufacturing environment

The salary range for this role is $117,000-$150,000 annually. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
