Job SummaryThe Supervisor of Occupational Rehabilitation Therapy is a working team member who is also responsible for providing leadership and oversight to a team of rehabilitation staff, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, certified occupational therapy assistants, physical therapist assistants, rehab aides and other rehab team members. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and services that meet the standards of the organization and regulatory agencies. The Supervisor assumes responsibility and accountability for department operations and rehab staff.
Core Job Responsibilities- Coordinates therapy schedules, staffing levels, workflow and department resources.
- Provides patient care within the guidelines of state and professional agency’s Scope of Practice.
- Serve as a resource and role model to therapy staff.
- Monitor patient documentation to ensure it aligns with best practices and hospital standards.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and optimize care plans.
- Follow health system policies and regulations, ensuring all activities are in compliance.
- Foster a supportive and collaborative team environment.
- Support quality process improvement initiatives and productivity measures.
- Coordinate and facilitate new employee orientation, ongoing education and training for therapy staff to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
- Keep current on advances in rehabilitation therapy practices and integrate evidence based treatments into clinical protocols.
- Keep department leadership updated on issues, concerns and progress towards goals.
- Proactively communicate pertinent information with each shift.
- Participate in budgeting and expense management activities, including new equipment purchase recommendations.
- In partnership with leadership and Human Resources, make recommendations related to performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc. Resolve or provide input to staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with Manager and HR.
- Flexible to cover evenings, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis or to meet patient needs.
- Assume responsibility for department operations and accountability in the absence of the Manager.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience RequirementsREQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Language Pathology.
- 3 years of clinical experience.
- Proficient in MS Office and EMR/EHR.
- Organizational, verbal, written and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, guide and motivate others.
PREFERRED:
- Master’s degree or doctorate in occupational therapy field.
- Experience in acute hospital setting
Licensure/Certification RequirementsREQUIRED:
- New York State License as a therapist (PT, OT, SLP).
- CPR certification (AHA).
