Packaging Mechanic Job Description
- Performs mechanical work required for installation and maintenance of equipment, systems, and facilities, by diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer's specifications, and estimates jobs for material and labor
- Is proficient in troubleshooting electrical problems
- Performs planned maintenance on and repairs mechanical systems
- Review schedule with production and assist with equipment changeovers
- Performs general plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) repairs to the facility's equipment and systems.
- Inspects equipment and systems to identify problems or issues.
- Consult blueprints or building plans to identify the best solution to resolve systems or equipment issues.
- Conducts preventive maintenance to ensure that plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems continue operating properly.
- Obtains services from outside contractors when repairs require specialized training.
- Performs general cleaning tasks in the facility.
- Maintains inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
- Perform scheduled maintenance during downtime
- Inspects maintains, and repairs mechanical systems
- Capable of conducting root-cause analysis on breakdowns and stops on high-speed equipment
- Utilizes work order system to initiate mechanical work for unscheduled jobs and develop material lists for ordering by supervision
- Respond to emergencies, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical problems
Requirements:
- 1 to 3+ years of experience in a hands-on maintenance position
- Must have Effective Interpersonal Skills and the ability to obtain cooperation, support, and cohesiveness on project/work activities with staff personnel
- Experience with Vision Systems, Flow Wrappers, and Labeling machines a plus
- Able to work Saturdays and overtime as needed
- Set up, inspect, and troubleshoot production and support equipment
- Basic electrical abilities
- Must be able to read and work from circuit diagrams, blueprints, and schematic diagrams
- Previous experience as an industrial mechanic in a manufacturing setting, or a related position
- Certified HVAC preferred.
- ARPAC Certified preferred.
- Automation Experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of general plumbing, and electrical.
- Ability to read blueprints, building plans, and repair manuals.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Mechanic knowledge of ARPAC and Douglas repack machinery.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, and crawl into awkward spaces.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
