Job Summary and QualificationsPACU Nurse
The Registered Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act.
- Utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice.
- Maintains a safe therapeutic environment.
- Identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient.
- Registered Nurse plans individualized patient care while utilizing an interdisciplinary approach.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement.
- When acting in charge nurse role, registered nurses are responsible for day-to-day activities to ensure the delivery of quality patient care in a therapeutic environment.
- Make staff assignments based on patient need, acuity and the skill of the staff.
- Serve as role models and clinical resource for the staff.
- Respond in a timely manner to requests for information or follow-up with physician, staff or patient issues.
What you will do in this role:
- You will utilize therapeutic communication in daily practice, maintains a safe therapeutic environment, and identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient.
- You must demonstrate age specific knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment and care of patients.
- Ensuring the privacy of our patients and confidentiality of their Protected Health Information (PHI) is core to your role.
- You will utilize the nursing process for individual care to meet needs of patients and document all patient care.
- Your role demonstrates the ability to perform technical skills, follow procedures, and show critical thinking.
- You will provide care and coordinate participation that fosters the goals of the hospital's mission and vision statement.
Receives post-surgical report from CRNA and circulator, including, but not limited to;
- Airway patency, patient vital signs during procedure, type of anesthesia used, dressings, drains, and fluid intake/output.
- Maintenance of post-operative drains including, JP, Hemovac, Pleurovac, and foley catheters.
- Maintenance of patient airway, including oral airways, nasal airways, and ETT.
- Assess and treat pain based on parameters given by physician ordering pain medication, be alert for signs of overmedication and or anaphylaxis.
- Provides updates to appropriate individuals identified by the patient.
- Oversees quality assurance activities, and communicating any concerns to the physician.
What qualifications you will need:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Registered Nurse: TN RN License or compact Licensure.
- Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma from an accredited school of nursing.
- At least 1 year of ICU, ER, or PACU experience.
