Superintendent Trainee
Hours: Regular hours are Mon- Fri 7:00am-4:00pm with 40-45hr weeks. During harvest time, (approx. 9/25 – 11/24) hours increase to 6-7 days a week, 70-80 hrs. per week. Overnight or late shifts may be required periodically.
LOCATION: Milwaukee, WI
PAY: $65-$85k a year based on experience

The Superintendent Trainee works closely with the Location Manager and Superintendent to oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the grain elevator. This includes the coordination of elevator operations staff in receiving, drying, storing, quality control, and transporting grains.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Superintendent Trainee:
- Safety:
- Coach and train personnel to perform duties correctly and safely.
- Lead facility safety meetings.
- Understand and enforce OSHA standards and The DeLong Co., Inc. policies and procedures.
- Record all safety and policy documentation properly and on time.
- Participate in companywide monthly safety meetings via Teams.
- Operations:
- Monitor grain condition, aeration, grain movement, cleaning operations, dryer operations, task assessments, and grain inventories in coordination with location manager.
- Coordinate with grain originator and logistics personnel on grain movements.
- Safety and efficiently unload hopper bottom rail cars and trucks.
- Safely and efficiently unload grain customer vehicles and wagons.
- Ensure quality of grain inventory meets or exceeds customer standards.
- Climbing (up to 150 feet) and confined space entry
- On call 24hrs/day certain times of the year
- Long hours and seven-day work weeks are required seasonally and periodically.
- Working conditions are dusty and dirty in general.
- Personnel Management:
- Day to day scheduling of employees to match workload and customer service hours.
- Ensure all employees have been trained and practice proper safety regulations and DeLong Company policies and procedures.
- Understand and enforce OSHA standards and The DeLong Co., Inc. policies.
- Communicate Verbally and in writing with employees of the Delong Company and others outside of the company.
- Must maintain a good working relationship with facility and division management.
- Maintenance:
- Ability to navigate and use digital maintenance software.
- Understanding and application of mechanical and electrical principles
- Establish and execute maintenance schedule in coordination with scheduled grain movements and customer service hours.
- Anticipate unscheduled maintenance projects.
- Lift up to 50lbs
- Perform general maintenance independently and with staff.
- Coordinate with facility manager to orient the facility for future expenditures and growth opportunities.
- Continuous improvement in supervisory skills and job knowledge
- Perform general labor duties.
- Loading vessels in a new state of art facility.
- Learn and enforce the FSP to meet coast guard
- Any other duties assigned by location manager.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Mechanical aptitude- required
- Lift up to 50lbs- required
- Strong Communication-required
- Microsoft Office applications and computer skills-required
- Organizational skills- required
- PLC control experience- preferred
- 480v and 120v electrical experience- preferred
- Previous supervisory experience-preferred
- Previous grain handling experience- preferred
- Customer service experience- preferred
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Comfortable working around water required
- Ability to get and maintain a TWIC card required
- Ability to get a fumigation license required
- Ability to obtain an AFSO certificate required
