Global Engineering & Technology (GE&T) Software Engineering is a unique team that develops a wide variety of software from web development applications to low-level real-time embedded systems. For example, you may develop a web app to track ride vehicles one day and the next, building computer software for animatronics control systems. We work with Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) on upcoming attractions and take over the sustainment of the attraction systems software once opened. We support our Sustaining Engineering and Engineering Services partners in keeping the attractions running efficiently and providing requested improvements.
As a Sr. Software Engineer on the GE&T Software Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to support a wide variety of applications, such as:
Features for animatronic control systems to improve maintenance and troubleshooting ability.
System tracking compliant equipment and providing lap counts in our attractions.
Web applications for vehicle tracking and monitoring of other vital systems.
Automation of attraction software deployment and configuration enforcement in operating attractions.
This role will challenge you to wear your technical and creative hats to apply engineering principles to make the creative vision a reality.
This is a Full Time role and report to Team Leader, Software Engineering.
What You Will Do Develop and maintain several next-generation proprietary Disney software, primarily focused on real-time embedded systems.
Maintain software for an audio-animatronics control system and work in the field to test updates.
Maintain and update systems as required that work with ride control and the enterprise asset management software.
Work and partner with multidisciplinary teams across the Parks and Resorts to test software and hardware updates in the field.
Perform development and maintenance tasks that include updates to toolsets, upgrades to support new computer/electronics hardware, drivers, and user interface development.
Review detailed components and assemblies, make supporting analyses, define system requirements, and work with other disciplines to build, test, install, and commission attraction systems.
Make decisions that affect safety, reliability, and performance of attractions systems.
Required Qualifications & Skills 5+ year's of experience in application development.
Experience with object-oriented programming, analysis, and software design principles.
Knowledge of Software Development Life cycle and Quality Assurance processes.
Experience with revision control systems such as Git, Mercurial, or Subversion.
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose with little notice, while maintaining consistency with architectures in place.
Ability to prioritize and switch between different roles within this position, while maintaining a high standard of performance.
Ability to be flexible with work schedule.
Strong written, verbal communication and collaboration skills.
Proven problem solving and decision making skills.
Preferred Qualifications Ability to read, write, understand, and translate multiple software languages (Python, C/C++, C#, Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
Experience with software development under Linux and Windows.
Knowledge of Microsoft .NET.
Proven domain experience in software-hardware interaction.
Understanding of modern industrial Fieldbus Protocols (CAN, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP).
Knowledge of Beckhoff TwinCAT2 and TwinCAT3.
Familiarity with Atlassian Tools such as Jira & Confluence.
Experience with Agile development methods.
Experience with automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous development.
Experience in monitoring and data visualization with ELK/Splunk.
Knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, and memory management.
Experience with electrical circuits and networking systems.
Knowledge of IBM Maximo.
Understanding of real-time systems.
Knowledge of timing diagrams.
Ability to read electrical schematics/wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
Understanding of controls topics, including state machines, PID, motion control.
Experience with functional safety.
Education Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical background.
Preferred: Master of Science in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical background.
