Summary: The Medical Coder accurately assigns ICD-10-CM, CPT codes, APC's, and DRG's for all relevant acute care and hospital patient encounters. They actively contribute to the clinical documentation improvement program and uphold Southeast Georgia Health System's commitment to safety, compliance with regulatory requirements, and service excellence.
Pay Rate: $22.50 - $33.84 / Hourly (based on level of experience)
Essential Responsibilities:
- Accurate Coding: Identify and code all acute care and hospital patient discharges, maintaining a 96% accuracy rate.
- Compliance: Demonstrate adherence to policies, procedures, and federal guidelines relevant to coding practices, including Coding Clinics AHA and CPT Assistant AMA.
- Billing Integrity: Monitor accounts not selected for billing to prevent coding-related delays.
- Communication: Effectively communicate coding changes and clarifications to ancillary departments and Medical Staff members.
- Physician Queries: Accurately complete physician queries following AHIMA physician query standards.
- Quality Assurance: Review all CDI concurrent reviews before releasing inpatient accounts for billing.
- Specialized Coding: Review injection, infusion, OPS, and ER charges for accuracy, assigning appropriate codes for billing.
- Regulatory Compliance: Perform duties in compliance with Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services and other regulatory agencies' requirements.
