Job Duties
Western State Hospital is seeking a Part Time On Duty Nurse Practitioner. This position is responsible for performing required admission assessment of patients brought to the hospital and responding to medical/psychiatric needs of the patients for the duration of the on call/on duty period. This position will also collaborate with on-call admissions coordinator regarding after hours referrals to determine appropriateness of admission and medical clearance; admission assessment (including history, physical exam, mental status, etc.); assessment/management of acute psychiatric and medical issues which occur on on duty/on call shift; arrange for transfer or patients to services/care to other facilities; communicates with medical staff, patients, and other staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- Virginia medical license
- ability to obtain an active DEA number for WSH
- current BLS certification
- completion of approved educational program for Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
- completion of application and approval by the Joint Boards of Nursing and Medicine
- extensive experience as a nurse practitioner
- relevant experience in the performance of histories and physical examinations and the diagnosis and treatment of acute medical and psychiatric disorders
