Experienced Facility Technician

The Facility team starts the day at 7am and works until 3:30pm with some overtime. Individuals will be exposed to all different elements of building maintenance, ranging from HVAC to electrical to plumbing. The sky is the limit and your career as a Facility Technician at the City of Leawood would be up to how you make it!
Summary of the Position: The Facility Technician performs preventive maintenance on City owned equipment, diagnoses building maintenance issues and performs light routine repairs. Assists the Building Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring the safety and reliability of City owned facilities and equipment.
General Overview of Responsibilities:
- Responsible for moderate routine repairs and preventative maintenance, on all City owned facilities and equipment to ensure the facilities and equipment are in working condition. Equipment includes but is not limited to heating and cooling, plumbing and electrical equipment.
- Responsible for performing interior and exterior construction duties including but not limited to moderate carpentry, drywall, masonry, roofing, concrete, wall coverings, painting, and floor coverings.
- Responsible for moderate maintenance and verifies operation of security, access and fire protection systems including eye washing stations and emergency lights.
- Responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting moderate electrical and plumbing defects found during inspection, replacement or installation.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating work orders and keeping the Building Maintenance Supervisor or designee updated with a status report of work completed.
- Responsible for maintaining building maintenance records and protocols in various electronic and computer based software applications.
- Assists the Building Maintenance Supervisor in maintaining inventory and records of all City buildings, equipment, and building maintenance supplies.
- Assists the Department with inspections, replacements, installations, and repairs of various electrical devices including outlets, light fixtures, and switches.
- Conducts daily visual inspection of interior and exterior building lighting appliances.
- Performs light housekeeping around City facilities.
- Assists the Building Maintenance Supervisor in providing routine oversight of contractual janitorial staff.
- Assists in the training of Facility Technician Is and Facility Attendants.
- May assist Facility Specialists with diagnosing complex plumbing, hvac and electrical repairs.
Minimum Requirements: Must have a minimum of four (4) years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical or building maintenance. An Associate’s degree plus two (2) years of experience would count for equivalent work experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
Preferred Experience: Experience in municipality building maintenance and HVAC experience.

The position is eligible to receive merit-based pay increases every year (merit increase up to 5% increase). Employees also receive a Time In Service Bonus every three years of employment on their anniversary date equal to 5% of their annual salary.
