your lifes best work.(sm) Under the direction of the department manager or supervisor, performs interpretive, patient care, and technical functions to insure proper radiologic diagnosis of patients.
Primary Responsibilities: - Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist.
- Receives and reviews request for radiologic studies
- Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements
- Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
- Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the radiology department, operating suites and at the patient's bedside, selecting technical factors to ensure high-quality radiographs using the A.L.A.R.A. (As low as reasonable achievable) standards.
- Explain and prepare the patient for all radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures
- Interview patients and review available clinical data from charts to alert nurses and or physicians to possible contradictions for procedure
- Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and effects of disease processes to properly and safely position the patient for maximum diagnostic yield.
- Maintains radiographic equipment and x-ray room in proper working condition. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.
- Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting order for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies.
- Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Perform other duties as assigned
