Description:The Nurse Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing nursing care in both the preoperative area and the hospital. This role ensures the smooth flow of patients through surgical procedures and recovery. The coordinator will supervise nursing staff, provide direct patient care, and facilitate communication between different departments. The Nurse Coordinator serves as a resource person for staff and models a commitment to the organization's mission and values.Key Responsibilities:Preop Management:
- Manage the preoperative assessment and preparation of patients, ensuring all necessary tests and documentation are completed.
- Communicate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to confirm patient readiness for surgery.
- Educate patients and their families about pre-op procedures, expectations, and post-op care. Hospital Management:
- Oversee patient care on the hospital floor, ensuring all patients receive high-quality nursing care.
- Conduct patient assessments, administer medications, and monitor patient progress.
- Address patient concerns and provide support and education to patients and their families.Staff Supervision and Training:
- Supervise and mentor nursing staff.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new nursing staff.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and nursing standards.Collaboration and Communication:
- Act as a liaison between the OR, PACU, and other hospital units.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans and coordinate services.
- Maintain open and effective communication with all members of the healthcare team.Quality Improvement:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care in the OR and PACU.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance patient care and department efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and reports.Administrative Duties:
- Work with Nurse Manager to schedule staff and manage daily workflows in both the OR and PACU.
- Ensure that all equipment and supplies are available and in good working condition.
- Handle administrative tasks such as maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, and managingRequirements:Qualifications:
- ADN required, bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current RN license in the state of Kansas.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in an preop or hospital setting. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
