Medical Laboratory Technician I - Physicians East PA, Arlington
We are looking for an exceptional Medical Laboratory Technician I to join our practice!
Physicians East, PA is a multi-specialty, multi-campus group based out of Greenville, NC offering a wide range of specialties. In addition to primary care the practice offers pulmonary and critical care medicine, rheumatology, dermatology, oncology, endocrinology, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, gastroenterology, surgery, urology, and urgent care. Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, bending, and standing required for extended periods of time. Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception.
Typical Working Conditions: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
GENERAL DUTIES: (This list may not include all the duties assigned)
- Prepare bone marrow aspirates and biopsies for analysis, as well as fine needle aspirates per procedure manual.
- Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results for the following instruments/tests:

- Semen Analysis
- Manual Differentials

- Urine Microscopics
- Microbiology
- Reading Urine and Throat Cultures

- Developing Rapid Kit Testing: HCG, Strep, Mono, Flu, H. Pylori
- Stool for WBC and Fecal Fat Stain
- Chemistry
- Siemens Atellica
- Piccolo Express
- AVL Opti CCA
- Theratest DSX
Additional Duties
- Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples for procedures described in above.
- Adhere to quality assurance policies, corrective action policies and preventive maintenance policies for procedures described above.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Immediately notify technical supervisor when identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance if problem cannot be corrected.
- Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, and quality control. Maintain log sheets for equipment maintenance.
- Print and review Levey- Jennings graphs and quality control results from the LIS or analyzer
- Perform paperwork necessary for departmental requirements.
- Prepare blood and urine specimens to be sent out to reference labs.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Attend safety classes and other continuing education classes as offered by Physicians East.
- Perform continuing education yearly as required by Physicians East.
- Maintain proficiency in using the LIS and EMR as required by Physicians East.

Location & commitments
Full Time role based at our Arlington Main Campus, Monday-Friday with hours ranging between the hours of 7:00 am until work is completed after closing at 5:30 pm.
Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner.
Weekend work is rare but can occasionally be necessary.
Candidate requirements
Associate degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician required. ASCP or NCA certification with at least two years' experience in all laboratory departments preferred.
Must work under direct supervision of the general supervisor when performing highly complex testing, if MLT does not have at least two years' experience performing highly complex testing. Highly complex tests include:
