Summary
We have an exciting new opportunity within our largest grain export facility located in Belle Chasse, LA. The Sr. Director of Production Operations reports to the Vice President of Operations and is responsible for executing the organizations strategic vision, building culture and driving operational excellence. This includes managing the execution of product distribution for products in excess of $2 Billion. In addition, the Sr. Director of production operations is also responsible for managing employees, administering the facility $40 million budget, overseeing capital expenditure projects and ensuring that environmental, health and safety programs are established and adhered to by employees, the broader organization and government agencies at the local, state and federal levels.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for leading and motivating people while managing through change in our largest grain export facility, recently expanded to increase barge unloading capacity.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and support to the Myrtle Grove Operations Leadership team.
- Oversee and manage the terminal to maximize efficiencies, and control expenses.
- Partner with sales, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure we are meeting allotted timelines to achieve maximum margin of profitability. Establish strong, collaborative relationships with these key stakeholders.
- Inspect and evaluate facility to provide guidance and direction for personnel, training, maintenance activities, and capital expenditures. These efforts must be coordinated with engineering, environmental, regulatory, and safety groups.
- Drive consistency and standardization across the terminal.
- Lead with a LEAN/Continuous Improvement mindset. Identify areas of improvement in the facility and create a collaborative action plan to address and improve efficiencies and profitability.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement new business opportunities in support of overall strategic initiatives.
- Manage the workforce through responsible training and clear job assignment definition and explanation, including organizational chart, job descriptions, and regular employee reviews.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability.
- Utilize understanding of the business to evaluate appropriate use of capital expenditures, expense budgeting, expense management, margin analysis, and inventory management to develop strategy and tactics for future improvements and expansions to the operations.
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED.
- 10+ years of experience in operations or business operations.
- Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities.
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred in business, operations, supply chain or related field
- 10+ years’ experience leading operations at a grain terminal
- Experience leading in a union environment preferred
- Agriculture experience in operations or commercial (sales/marketing/merchandising)
- Lean Certification
- Experience leading change management and motivating teams independently and through others.
- Ability to make decisions and work effectively both independently and with a team.
- Detail oriented with strong communication skills, both verbal and written with an ability to influence others.
- Possess strong negotiation, public relations and organizational skills.

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
